Collection: About the Artist

I’m Maakin, a self-taught artist and writer from Ontario, Canada. My work invites the viewer into my mind and the progression of my self-reflection. I pan the camera inward and place myself under a microscope, as well as examine the world around me, how I interact with it, and what I am convinced is my place in that world.

I do not believe in having just one art style. I want to experience multiple styles of painting throughout my life. My one hope is that whatever the style, my handwriting is visible and easily identifiable in every piece I create.

In this release, I examine the restrictions of my life (some self-imposed) as well as my feelings about the norms of humanity. The themes of my current release are self-reflection, deep thinking, introspection, calls to courage. My art is about longing for what could be and should be, in a world where we often stop ourselves before we can be stopped.

I hope to honour courage, always.
